Verdict: In our Nuvo H2O review we discovered that while not a true water softener, the Nuvo H2O has the ability to work in many ways like a water softener would. The Nuvo H2O water system has the ability to reduce scale, but your water needs to be alkaline for it to work. If your water doesn’t have a high enough pH level or you have well water, like other Nuvo water softener reviews have pointed out, this wouldn’t be a system that will adequately soften your water.

Pros:

  • Able to remove hard-water scale and stop further build-up
  • The Nuvo H2O DPMB is eco-friendly and does not require salt
  • Comes with a Lifetime warranty and a 3-month money back guarantee
  • Cartridges last for 6 months and are easily replaceable
  • Approved by the FDA and NSF

Cons:

  • If you have a private well, you shouldn’t use the Nuvo H2O DPMB
  • Only works well if your water has a pH-level higher than 7.2
  • Replacement cartridges are on the more expensive side

Our Full Nuvo H2O Review

The Nuvo H2O water softener uses chelation as opposed to the traditional ion exchange that occurs with a salt-based water softener. Instead of salt, the Nuvo H2O water softener uses a cartridge that is filled with a formula that has been approved by the FDA. In chelation, the minerals that cause hard water will bind to the approved solution and will no longer be soluble. While the minerals are not removed, all of the problems they caused with hard water scale should dissipate.

The results we determined in our Nuvo H2O review are that if you need an eco-friendly, salt-free water softener, the Nuvo H2O might be what you are looking for. However, there are some drawbacks here. The main one is with the cost of the replacement cartridges. The important thing tends to be performance and while the Nuvo H2O is basic, it does what it claims. That said, this won’t work for everyone. According to other Nuvo H2O reviews, a majority of users never notice a change in their water quality. More specifics can be found further in our Nuvo H2O review.

What is Nuvo H2O and Who Will it Work for?

The Nuvo H2O is a brand of water softener. There are three models to choose from that vary based on the size you’ll need, which is determined by the amount of people living in your home. As this is not a traditional salt-based water softener, it’s not going to work in every home where a more traditional option might. According the Nuvo, the following homes should not use the Nuvo H2O:

Nuvo also warns that if you tighten the fitting can too tightly the system will prematurely fail. Finally, if your home has copper piping you may notice that your water has a blue tinge to it. This is perfectly harmless and should fade. It occurs due to oxidization.

Nuvo Water Softener Reviews: Installation

Most Nuvo H2O reviews will point out how easy it is to get this system up and running and they aren’t kidding. You would have a hard time finding a water softener that is easier to set up than this one. As this model is compact in size it’s perfect for smaller homes and will fit just about in any tucked away corner of your home. The installation will happen quickly with you being setup within hours to be working at full use. The instructions are fairly easy to follow, but if you’re stumbling there are plenty of setup videos online that will walk you through the process step by step with visual cues. You can also look to the online manual, which has installation instructions.

Nuvo H2O Water System: Maintenance & Programming

You won’t have to worry about programming your Nuvo H2O because there is nothing to program. As for maintenance, you will have a little bit to handle, but things tend to take care of themselves most of the time. Every six months or 50,000 gallons you will need to change the replaceable cartridge. This is as simple as shutting down the water and swapping the old one for the new one. Like with the installation, if you’re confused in any way there are videos online that can help!

Nuvo H2O Price

The Nuvo H2O comes in at under $1,000 for a unit that is good for four people in a home around 2,000 square feet, according to their claims. The price isn’t bad for a water softener. They offer a money-back guarantee for the first 90-days. After that you have a limited lifetime warranty. On the downside, shipping isn’t covered for returns.

At just the unit price, this isn’t so bad. However, for replacement cartridges there are additional fees. You can easily find the cartridges. Most places that sell them charge about $90 for them. Assuming you only need to replace them twice a year, which is the minimum recommendation, that’s still $180 a year in additional charges. Whether or not this ends up being worth it would depend on the hardness of your water and how much the Nuvo H2O is able to improve it. In relation to other water softeners you will spend more money because the bags of salt they require are only a few dollars per bag.

What Makes Nuvo H2O Water Softener Systems So Unique

The consumer market is flooded with countless brands of water softeners. However, not all of them are as effective as the Nuvo H2O.

The biggest selling point of their systems is that they use CitraCharge Cell Technology. This uses citric acid to prevent the accumulation of limescale in the water, while other brands use salts to do the same.

However, excess salt content in your water is as harmful as the other elements that make water hard. All systems by Nuvo H2O are salt-free, long-lasting, and easy to install. You can install it without requiring any plumbing service.

Nuvo H2O Reviews: What are Others Saying?

It’s pretty typical to read a review or two before making a large purchase. We take that into consideration, as well. This is why in addition to our Nuvo H2O review, you can see what other verified purchasers have to say about their experience with this water softening system.

“I have used this product for years and decided to install one in my new home. Easy to install and replace cartridge.” – Angela C.

“Had this system for a year. I live in the Central valley of California with really hard water. I really haven’t noticed any difference in the water. I have a new home so I didn’t really see any scale buildup before install and haven’t seen such after. The water tastes just as bad as it did prior to install.” – Mr. Berns

“We have this attached to treat all the water in the house. It doesn’t 100% eliminate hard water deposits but it does greatly reduce deposits, and makes clean up much easier–and clean up is needed much less often. It makes whatever deposits that do accumulate much easier to clean up. We have been using it for a couple of years now and will be keeping it.” – Karen A.

Other Types of Nuvo H2O Water Systems Available

Nuvo H2O offers three different types of water softeners, including the Manor water softener system. These systems primarily differ based on the system’s capacity and features. Here’s a detailed look into the other two popular Nuvo H2O systems.

The Studio

This is the smallest model offered by Nuvo H2O, which is perfect for small studio apartments occupied by a bachelor or young couple. The system is designed to filter out at least 10,000 gallons of water, after which you’ll be required to replace the filter for a continued supply of safe and soft water.

The studio comes with ¾ inch pipes and a 15 GPM. This means the system offers a speed of filtering 15 gallons of water per minute. The best feature of this system is that it comes with brackets that you can use to attach the Studio to your water lines. At 6 pounds, it’s lightweight, which makes it convenient to use.

The Home

This is the medium-sized water softener system offered by Nuvo H2O. As the name suggests, it is perfect for homes and large flats housing nuclear families. Homes and flats with a total area ranging between 1,000 to 2,000 sq feet would find this filter ideal.

The Home system provides 15 GPM speed. However, since it’s meant for bigger residences, you might find a negligible drop in water pressure. However, this difference will only be noticeable when you have five or more taps running simultaneously.

It can fit in 1-inch pipes that can be replaced with ¾ inch pipes if you fall short of space. The system is capable of filtering at least 20,000 gallons of water per filter.

The Home system also comes with brackets that prevent damage to your pipelines during installation. Weighing 9 pounds, it’s slightly heavier than the Studio Model but is perfect for small to medium-sized families.

Nuvo H2O Review: Conclusion

The Nuvo H2O works well in many situations when it comes to reducing scale buildup and stopping further buildup. However, it is a basic model that is not without limitations. If your water isn’t alkaline or you have a private well, this would not be the product for you. It’s not a product that has many bells and whistles, but it is competent in the right situations. The cost of the cartridges can add up, which is something else to consider. If you want softer water, but don’t want to use a salt-based water softener, the Nuvo H2O would be a good option.
